Everyone is leading a busy life nowadays and with all the work hectic schedules we often think that we are going through so much and wish things were better. But if we stop for a moment and take a glance on the people that are below us how they are leading their lives, how hard it is for them to go through every single day without the bare necessities passing days in hunger helpless.

The national nutrition survey 2018 showed that 36.9 percent of the population faces food insecurity. Only one in seven children aged 6–23 months receives a meal with minimum dietary diversity and around 82% children are deprived of the minimum number of the meals a day. As for unemployment the number of unemployed people in the country has been estimated to reach 6.65 million during the fiscal year 2020–21, compared to 5.80m of the outgoing financial year.

Hunger and unemployment is an individual problem within a societal context which should rather be understood and interpreted within an economic-political and socio-cultural framework. The “blame” for this issue can rarely be placed on individuals. In cases where the problem is caused by the individuals themselves, questions should also be asked about the role of culture and the socio-political context within which such individuals grew up.

There are some researches that explains hunger and unemployment are not only caused by economic circumstances, I want to help such individuals with this program, to help motivate and understand the importance of supporting their families.

Households with incomes below the poverty line encounter unparalleled challenges, Food insecurity and Unemployment is often experienced by these households. I want to create a program to help households with no jobs & food scarcity. My idea is to feed and provide hard skilled jobs to one individual at a time. As my motive is “ONE PERSON, ONE MEAL & ONE JOB”.

For this motive I first noted any person who was in need near my surroundings and found out that the housekeeper working at my house needed some help as she was alone working for her family because her husband was jobless since 2 years. Another person who caught my attention was the gatekeeper of the society where I live. He was indeed doing his job and was getting paid but due to insufficient income wasn’t able to eat properly for days because he sends a huge chunk of his salary to his family.

The housekeeper at my house.
Gatekeeper at my society.

Knowing about their situation I immediately decided to help them by paying for monthly groceries of the gatekeeper and also managed to put the maid’s husband on employment.

When they both came to know that I will help them the happiness on their faces was immeasurable. They were so grateful to me that I thought about helping them and how I have made their lives so much easier through my act of kindness.

Until now I was only aware about the problem and how it is a major pitfall in our society but after working on it and experiencing it I realized that the problem is much bigger than it is visible to us. I helped two people but there are countless people who are going through much worse situations and they too are looking for a miracle that can change their life. This experience made me much more grateful then I was ever before and it also enlightened a sense of responsibility in me that people are leading harsh lives an act of kindness can make such a huge change the bliss you achieve by helping someone in need is limitless as in the Quran, Allah (swt) says:

“Help one another in acts of piety and righteousness”.

Being one of the principles of our faith to help our fellow human beings helping others in need is indeed a stepping stone towards paradise.
